Is this a Koi or Betta fish?

Is this a Koi or Betta fish?

Don’t be mistaken. The above picture is a betta fish. This is what we call a koi betta. This breed have been created by the thailand breeders by mixing marble gene betta with clear cellophane or white bettas. It requires multiple generations of breeding to achieve such colors. Please beware that some koi betta will change colour as they age due to their marbling genes. Therefore it is possible that breeding 2 koi betta will give you solid coloured betta fishes. Highly priced koi betta are thoses that have a single red spot on their head.

In betta competition, koi betta compete in any other color class. It will be interesting to see how a koi betta colour develop from young. Please hit me up if you have any koi betta spawn and is willingly to put 1 male under my care. I will document it’s growth return the fish in the future 🙂

Red/Black Dragon HMPK Betta Fish

Red/Black dragon betta development from fry to adulthood

Hi, I finally managed to get a pair of red/black dragon hmpk from a local breeder. I do not really have eyes for good fish as there was too many to choose from. Below are the two spawns that i managed to grab. Female have bad scaling, so disappointed that i missed this defect till i got home and get a closer look at it. Male looks good and have a lots of potential to be a show betta fish.

First look – Week 7

Female black red dragon HMPK – 7 weeks old

Male black red dragon HMPK –  7 weeks old

Adulthood – 3 Months old

After a month, the fish have grown a lot and starting to develop thick scaling. Negative point about thick scaling is that it will cause it to have diamond eye as they age. Diamond eye will lead betta fishes to blindness as their scales cover their eyes.

The female shown to have slight improvement on their scaling and shows to have good finage however it is not covered 100%. As for the male, the scaling is developing well, however the caudal fin shows to have a rose tail effect and the ventral fins are in a mess.

This two are definitely not show fishes, i hope from this two betta dragons i will develop betta eyes for betta fish fry or i will just go for fully growth betta fishes.

PS. Both fishes are feed Atison betta pro pellets under my care. 90% water change every 4 days and 6-8 pellets per meal, twice a day.

No more hope for scaling 😦

Please note this is not photoshop, it is breed from a Thailand breeder. This kind of betta is very rare and hard to come by. I believe it can only be found after spawning an 3-4 batches bettas fishes.

Basically it is a Armageddon color base with a dragon scaling. It might be a result from breeding a red and yellow dragon.

This is one of the most unique betta i ever seen in my life. How i wish i have space for this beauty.
